Golden Willow Residence

The clients chose this enchanted site for it's dramatic, nestled, hidden and wild qualities. Tucked in a north valley along the side of a forested mountainside in Evergreen, the site received both minimal appearances by the sun but a delightful host of wildlife and native fauna. The proposed design wove, folded and bent itself between the existing trees and used natural topography to inform level changes and treetop views of the forest. Massing forms, mimicking both the vernacular A-frame language of mountain homes and the profile of an evergreen forest, shifted and slid alongside each other to offer both subtle and overt views of the forested landscape and a seasonal creek. The material palette was sensitive to the wooded site in both tone and color, utilizing warm browns, deep greens and natural stone.
